Boring is the new cool!

And it is so exciting!

Did you know that living a boring life is the new cool thing to do? Have you not heard it yet? Let me explain.

I live what many people would call the most boring life ever. It is full of structure: going to bed at a set time, cooking myself a healthy dinner instead of going out for a few drinks, waking up early to work out. Reading books on my free time instead of mindlessly watching TikTok videos.

And lately, the books have sucked me in. One after another after another! I cannot get enough!

Do you know what happens when you start leading this life? Your life becomes easier. Going to bed at a set time will help you wake up fresh and well rested. And when this happens, you have more energy to do other things right as well. Then you have energy to workout, be it lifting weights at the gym or going for a run outside. Or even walking.

When you cook yourself a healthy meal, you take care of yourself. Your health improves. All these bits add to better mood and transforms your life. You stress less, life becomes easier to handle.

How many of us feel like we just go through life trying desperately to survive day to day?

I’ve been there, I know how it feels. And I also know that the idea of doing extra work, like cooking after work can seem daunting. But you only need to start small. You don’t have to do all at once!

Start by going to bed at a set hour to make sure you have enough rest for the day ahead of you. Don’t spend hours on your phone in bed, instead turn the lights off and lay in there. Let your brain wonder with no pressure to fall asleep and you will be sleeping sooner than you would otherwise.

When you get into a healthy sleeping routine, then maybe add a daily walk. Morning, midday, evening — it doesn’t matter. Just get those steps in. Do you know what I do when I am at home? I still wake up early, get myself a cup of coffee and read a book while walking. How do I manage to read while walking? I walk in place while my phone is standing in front of me at a comfortable height. I read my books from my phone. Simple! You don’t even have to get out of the house!

Of course, if you can get out, you definitely should as it is way healthier to walk outside. Skip the book part then!

Now, when you feel ready, maybe you can start making yourself a dinner instead of a takeaway? Maybe even bring leftovers to work? It doesn’t have to be fancy. My simplest meals that save me a ton of time are chicken (or other protein) with vegetables cooked in the oven. Just add some healthy fat after and you are good to go!

See, boring and simple. And healthy!
